My first custom keyboard ⌨️
The keyboard featured in this photo was assembled by me on October 15th. Although it took me over six hours, the build process was really enjoyable. I was unaware of this hobby until my friend sent me some thocky keyboard videos; their unique sound and appearance caught my attention. It wasn’t soon until I found myself researching tutorials and guides on building custom keyboards. That is how this white and cyan themed keyboard came to light.
Disclaimer: By no means is this a step by step guide :)
Configuration:
- Case, PCB, plate combo: SKYLOONG GK61 (AmazonCA)
- Switches: Gateron Milky Yellow (Shockport)
- DUROCK Switch Films (Shockport)
- Coral Sea Japanese 60% PBT OEM Profile keycaps (AmazonCA)
- Krytox 205g0 (Shockport)
- Krytox 105 (Shockport)
- Dielectric grease (AmazonCA)
Additionally, I also had to purchase some extras like a switch opener, keycap remover, switch remover, etc. All the costs total to around 230 Canadian dollars. This went way over my initial budget but the lubricants and tools were not cheap either, particularly the shipping costs.
Todo:
- PE foam mod
- Clip and lube stabilizers
- Lube switches (w/ switch films)
- Finally, assemble all the parts together
